Thomas Jefferson, Stanford White and the University of Virginia Rotunda [manuscript] : a controversy of styles/ Frederick Doveton Nichols and Omer Allan Gianniny, Jr., 1984.

The unpublished manuscript, co-authored by Frederick Doveton Nichols and Omer Allan Gianniny, Jr. credits White for returning "the University to a style of architecture compatible with Jefferson's original concepts" but finds that the architect's "silo-like interior was a general disaster, both practically and aesthetically" and thath his "lack of wit in closing the vista [from the Rotunda] was inexcusable...."
